meet the endo twins

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Tom and John grew up in a Dutch immigrant household, leading lives dedicated to serving others creating a legacy of kindness.

Tom

Tom was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, the seventh of ten children. After graduating from Granite High School in 1981, Tom served a church mission in the Netherlands and Belgium in 1982-1984. He attended the University of Utah where he later earned a bachelor’s degree in medical biology. He met and married his wife, Julie, while he attended the U. Next came dental school at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1991. He did a year-long general practice residency with the United States Air Force at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. Captain VanDenBerghe served at Soesterberg AFB in the Netherlands and Tinker AFB in Oklahoma. Following his military service, he completed an endodontic residency at the University of Nebraska in 1997. Their growing family returned to Utah where Tom would build a private practice in Sandy, Utah. Tom opened Southtown Endodontics near the Sandy City offices in September of 1997. A year later, he was thrilled to welcome his twin brother to the practice. Together Tom and John have continued to work wholeheartedly to serve their patients with the utmost care and precision. Tom enjoys being with his family, working on projects at home, and in recent years, being grandpa, “Opa,” to his beloved grandkids.

John

John was born and raised in the Salt Lake City, Utah area along with his nine siblings. He received his undergraduate education from the University of Utah. Following the completion of his Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Biology in 1987, he attended the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in Oklahoma City. After graduation in 1991, John joined the United States Air Force where he first completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas . After serving for an additional four years in both England and California, John left the Air Force and moved to Nebraska to receive his specialty training in Endodontics from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. In 1998, John moved his family back “home” to Utah and joined his twin brother, Tom, in the newly-founded Southtown Endondontics practice. The two have worked side-by-side ever since. John’s hobbies include gardening, reading, traveling, but most of all, spending time with his family. He speaks fluent French, thanks to a church mission he served in Belgium and France. John and his wife, Maryanne, have 5 children and an ever-growing amount of grandchildren, who all affectionately call him Papa.
